As the owner of a large portion of the site of the switching yard in Frankfurt the DBImm, as the representative of the Deutsche Bahn AG (German Rail), is planning to develop the Europaviertel as a new city quarter in Frankfurt. In order to offer an innovative residential development which is both of high quality as well as financially sound and marketable the DBImm decided to hold an urban design competition. The basis for the competition area was the urban development framework plan for the Europaviertel Frankfurt that had been approved by the city.

The competition was prepared, organized and held by AS+P. It was held in the form of an anonymous, closed, single step urban design competition including a preliminary application and selection process of the participants.
