The former Pioneer Barracks on Aschaffenburger Strasse in Hanau is being transformed into a new urban residential quarter. This takes into account in particular the urgent demand for housing in both Hanau and the Rhine-Main region in general. In addition to a wide range of housing, well-integrated commercial and mixed facilities as well as general amenities will be built. The plans envisage the creation of around 1,600 residential units with different types of single-family homes and apartment blocks in a “new park city” on the heritage site.

In a multiple commission procedure in the summer of 2017, the urban development draft submitted by AS+P GmbH won the day, and the company was subsequently tasked with fleshing out the draft and drawing up the legal zoning plan. The main challenges included guaranteeing adequate emission protection (noise, smell), dealing with the problem of contaminated land, and creating adequate protection from high water levels. In close collaboration with the project developer, LEG Hessen-Hanau, the municipal authorities, and numerous experts, construction proposals were prepared, and planning-law provisions examined for the approx. 50-hectare site; this entailed an intensive planning process lasting two-and-a-half years. An innovative, viable mobility and energy concept is a particular aspect of the plans. The by-law resolution adopted in October 2019 marked a further important milestone on the way to a new neighborhood in Hanau.
