The Republic of Azerbaijan is applying to host the XXXI. Olympiad in the year 2016. Within a total time frame of only three months the cooperation of AS+P, ProProjekt (Project Management) and abold (Marketing and Communcation Agency) developed and produced the complete Application Files for the Baku 2016 Bid. AS+P was responsible for the creation of the overall Games Concept, the schematic layout of the Competion and Non-Competition Venues and the general Transport Concept.
For centuries, the image of Baku has been defined by the extraction of its natural resources, so the issue of re-use and renaturalisation of former crude oil extraction areas has become a key focus of the development of both the city and the country as a whole. Consequently, the core Olympic facilities (such as Olympic Park, Olympic Village, Media Facilities and Media Accommodation) will be constructed on a 470 ha derelict oilfield in the Baku waterfront area. Most of the competition venues will be situated within a maximum radius of 10 km of the newly planned Olympic Park Precinct. The Games Concept as a whole is firmly anchored in the cities' long-term development strategy. Their implementation would of course receive an enormous boost from the Olympic Games, accelerating the development of the country to becoming a prosperous modern society.
