Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2022 Almaty

Almaty, the former capital of Kazakhstan and cultural and economic center of the country, is bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. This traditional Eurasian winter sports region boasts outstanding climatic conditions and even today a large number of suitable competition facilities - sustainable Olympic »plug and play«. »Almaty 2020«, the country's first ever Olympic bid is based on the principles laid out in the IOC's »Olympic Agenda 2020«.

The bid documents were compiled together with PROPROJEKT Planungsman­age­ment und Projektberatung GmbH, the Salzburg planning office Masterconcept and the Munich agency abold Büro für Marketingkommunikation GmbH.

For the bid AS+P conducted the urban planning of the »Olympic City«. The Olympic village, the main media facilities (inter­national broadcast center, main press center, media village, media transport mall) and the »Almaty Olympic Arena«, in which the figure skating short track competitions are envisaged, will all be located on the 142-hectare site. Furthermore, the centerpiece of the Winter Olympic Games is where further major facilities such as accommodation for the Olympic family and the »Olympic Hospitality Center« are to be found.
