Shanghai office: First prize for AS+P in Xinzhuang Subcenter international urban planning competition
With its urban design study for Xinzhuang, one of the four sub-centers in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, the team at AS+P Architects Consulting (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. won out against the globally operating planning offices AECOM, United States and BDP, United Kingdom, and claimed first prize in the “Xinzhuang Subcenter International Competition for Urban Design. The client is Minhang district planning and natural resources bureau, Shanghai, People’s Republic of China.
“As the winners we will further deepen the planning and implement the results of the competition and the client’s ideas,” explained Johannes Dell, CEO of the Chinese subsidiary of AS+P. “After three months of hard work and competing with outstanding colleagues our team is delighted, honored and motivated.” This June three of a total of six prequalified planning firms were selected to submit designs for the competition. Apart from the urban design studies economic analyses are required as traffic planning and urban renewal.
Xinzhuang, located in the middle of the Shanghai Minhang district is also the geometric center of Shanghai and not only boasts numerous business, office and residential complexes but also public institutions. The scope of the study is 7.26 square kilometer and 4.24 square kilometers for urban design including five regions and two special architectural studies.
