The starting gun has sounded for the next phase of the development of the Nordpark Plaza on the Otto-Hahn-Ring: On the basis of the winning proposal in the urban and landscape planning competition organized by AS+P the development plan is now being moved forward.

In consultation with the City of Munich, BSC München Grundstücks GmbH & Co. KG. launched the planning competition and AS+P was tasked with coordinating the organization. The primary objective was to create offerings for the housing so urgently needed in the city. The goal posts for the competition were the resolution by the Munich Municipal Council covering the key parameters and the results of the comprehensive planning and civic participation process organized by AS+P.

In one of the first meetings of the competition jury after the Coronavirus lockdown, the proposal submitted by Prof. Biedermann Architekten together Mathias Wolf Landschaftsarchitekt, Fürstenfeldbruck was unanimously selected for the 1st Prize. The jury was first and foremost convinced by the clarity of the basic urban planning structures and unbuilt spaces in the design by the Munich-based architect´s practice.

For many weeks it had been unclear whether the current Coronavirus situation would allow the competition jury members to take part in the concluding meeting themselves or whether the final discussions would have to be online. AS+P played through both scenarios with the relevant players and assessed all the organizational consequences involved. In the final instance it proved possible to host the meeting as one of the very first where people actually met physically. To this end, alongside the usual procedure a list of measures was compiled to fulfill the safety and hygiene regulations and the organizational process adapted to the new situation.

The entries by all 45 teams will go on public display in the Muffat Hall from June 15-20, 2020.
