In Cairo, AS+P presented the new Masterplan and Architecture for Badya City

At the weekend, AS+P Managing Partner Joachim Schares and his team were busy in Cairo - presenting the integrated planning for Badya City to the Egyptian Minister of Housing, Mostafa Madbouly, the developers Palm Hills and the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) as well as selected guests.

The mixed-usage development for no less than 150,000 inhabitants featuring over 48,000 places of work centers also on the simultaneous design of the masterplan for all of Badya City and the architectural concept for the first 3,000 residential units. The area straddles some 1,260 hectares and is located about 30 kilometers to the west of the capital and within the strategic area designated for the extensions to Cairo - and forms part of 6th of October City. Badya City is being designed as a human-centered, green city where everything is close at hand and resources get spared. The two key design principles AS+P has deployed in this regard: a polycentric structure coupled with so-called "living streets" - where cars do not rule supreme, as the street is the central meeting place for the inhabitants. In combination with the reliance at a very early stage on digital tools such as GIS and BIM, the integrated modular system AS+P has developed at both the macro and micro levels enables a swift and economic design and construction process - with options that can be adapted to the client's wishes.

With the presentation of an interactive 3D model at the project launch, AS+P highlighted the holistic concept underpinning Badya City. Core elements in the proposal, such as the landscaping, sustainability, mixed usages, and traffic concepts were described vividly while at the same time viewers were able to follow the actual locations on the model itself.
