AS+P bid to redevelop the Grotenburg Stadium in Krefeld has been accepted
AS+P was able to win out in a Europe-wide tender and is now taking on the role of general planner commissioned by the City of Krefeld to refurbish the sports site.
The Grotenburg Stadium in the Bockum district is a child of its time: Built in the 1980s, it now only partially fulfills the requirements for holding football matches today. As a result, as per City Council Decree of April 12, 2013 parts of the superstructure, the building structure, and the technical facilities had to be renovated. Furthermore, the plan is for the stadium to serve going forwards as the home ground for Third Division team KFC Uerdingen.
In 2018, the City of Krefeld had commissioned AS+P to conduct a study on the feasibility of modernizing the stadium, paying attention in particular to the football-specific, building-law-related and economic framework conditions. The redevelopment measures are based on the results of this analysis. In the context of Third Division match operations, the stadium will in future need to have a capacity for 10,000 spectators. Additional measures to overhaul the stadium are currently already being carried out on behalf of the City of Krefeld. At the moment the lateral glass façades of the main stands are being renewed. In March 2020 further work to repair the concrete of the northern and main stands will follow.
