A Great Success - The Baku General Master Plan 2040 is honoured with the ISOCARP 2022 Grand Award for Excellence
At the 58th ISOCARP World Planning Congress in Brussels, AS+P representative Stefanie Anna Maria Wladika, together with Rufat Mahmud, head of the Baku City Architecture and Urban Development Department, proudly received the ISCOARP 2022 Grand Award for the strategic urban development plan for the City of Baku.
Out of 30 eligible submitted entries this year, the Baku General Master Plan 2040 was selected a winner by the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), a non-governmental global association of well-known professional urban planning experts from more than 85 countries.
According to the prominent jury “The Baku General Master Plan 2040 provides a strategic long-term approach to city resilience and climate responsiveness by centring its priorities around sustainable development, environmental regeneration, the built heritage, and urban economy. The metropolitan polycentric scheme which is based on transit-oriented development, addresses the urban growth and economic potential of Azerbaijan’s capital city by integrating complementary urban clusters and responding to self-sufficiency needs of regional gravitating centres.”
AS+P had been working on The Baku General Master Plan from 2019 to 2021 for the State Committee on Architecture and Urban Planning of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The project aims to establish key development prospects for a planning horizon until the year 2040. The Plan incorporates a vision jointly developed by key stakeholders, including a target image of the city’s future development, approaches, and specific solutions for the evolution of the major urban subsystems (spatial urban pattern, mobility, environment, utility infrastructure, urban economy), strategic projects driving the city’s development, implementation stages, as well as a design basis for allocation of limited resources.
