AS+P project on the shortlist for the award for “Exemplary Buildings in the State of Hessen 2020”
The jury of international experts appointed by the Hessen Chamber of Architects and Urban Planners selected the new district of Ludwigshöhe in Darmstadt, planned by AS+P from among the some 124 entries submitted to go forward to the second phase of the competition.
At the end of last year Hessen Chamber of Architects and Urban Planners (AKH) together with the State of Hessen, represented by the State Ministry of Finance, launched the latest Award for Exemplary Buildings. It is bestowed in recognition of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning projects throughout the state that are destined to provide pioneering and positive stimuli for future developments. The 21 projects selected for the shortlist, which include the new Ludwigshöhe district that AS+P designed, are also to become part of a public debate intended to support the sustainability strategy of the Hessen state government. Over the coming weeks, the jury will inspect the projects on site in order to pick a winner.
The new district of Ludwigshöhe
In 2017, AS+P emerged the winners of a Europe-wide competition with their design for the conversion of the former military site comprising the Cambrai Fritsch barracks and the Jefferson village, and the City of Darmstadt subsequently commissioned us with the development of a structural concept for the urban planning and landscaping of the site. The future district covers around 34 hectares and is expected to accommodate a total of 3,100 residents. The development, which is currently under construction, will be characterized in particular by various types of housing for different user groups, an attractive range of social infrastructure, traffic calming around the housing areas, and high-quality outdoor spaces.
