“Concrete Excellence””: With its striking new build on the banks of the Neckar, AS+P won out against all the competition, not only convincing the developers back when they held the design competition, but also now the award jury, the German Design Council.

The team at AS+P is delighted to announce that we have been declared the winners in the category “Corporate/Architecture”; the awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich on October 4, 2022, as part of Expo Real. The project garnered points particularly for its overall concept, the quality of the design, its aesthetics, and its sustainability.

It was in 2015 that AS+P embarked on the general planning for the building ensemble that now provides the HeidelbergCement AG payroll of approx. 1,000 staff members with somewhere to work across a total of a good 52,600 m² of gross floor area. With its sweeping façade elements, the distinctive tree-like supports in the foyer, and the cafeteria’s sculptural ceiling, the building demonstrates the manifold potential of concrete as a material. Thanks to its innovative energy concept, it achieves the German Sustainable Building Council’s ultimate, Platinum standard. In fact, about 1,000 m² of its roof space are equipped with photovoltaic modules and the baseload electricity used for heating and air conditioning is sourced from renewable energy.
