framework plan
The premises of Frankfurt’s former rail freight depot are today one of Germany’s largest and most significant urban development sites. The complex is the result of a long-term planning process for the City of Frankfurt and was designed as an integral part of it. As early as 1999, AS+P submitted a first urban master plan, which foresaw the creation of a new city quarter identified by modern mixed-use and vibrant urban life. Urban districts that were formerly separated will be reconnected and incorporated into existing transport networks and green zones, in an effort to ensure organic growth in this part of the city. A European-style boulevard extends over more than one km length from the metropolitan complex called the “Skyline Plaza” shopping center. Seven-storey buildings, containing offices as well as private apartments on the upper stories, and shops and restaurants on the ground floor, will line the boulevard. The main thoroughfare culminates in the “Europagarten”, a park that offers a wide array of public activities. Next to the park there will be an extensive and generously landscaped residential park. Moreover, adequate space will be provided for the long-term expansion of the trade fair and exhibition complex within its prominent downtown site. On the basis of the urban master plan, AS+P has drawn up detailed structural concepts, hosted an international urban development competition and elaborated the Master Plan 2020 on behalf of Messe Frankfurt. These initial proposals now form the basis for further development plans. Moreover, AS+P continues to provide consultancy services to property owners and is responsible for the organization of all required planning procedures. The AS+P client, Aurelis Real Estate GmbH & Co. KG, was awarded with the Gold Certificate for Sustainable Urban Quarters for the development of the Europaviertel West district in Frankfurt.
