In an interview with luminaire manufacturer XAL, AS+P Managing Director Axel Bienhaus tells the story behind the design of the headquarters.
“Concrete Excellence” - this was the title of the 2015 competition, in which AS+P successfully won the day against renowned competitors and subsequently realized the new company headquarters for HeidelbergCement AG, acting as general planners.
With its curved façade elements, a central thoroughfare and the unusual tree-like supports in the foyer, the DAX-list company's corporate headquarters is an outstanding project that definitely makes a real mark on its new location on the northern bank of the Neckar River in the city’s Neuenheim district. Up to 1,000 employees of the Group benefit from a modern working environment that offers not only classic office space but also special zones as a place for meeting and direct communication. In an interview on site in Heidelberg, Axel Bienhaus describes the role played by architecture in the sophisticated interplay with light.
