The intention is to rebuild the existing Wildpark Stadium, while it is still fully operational, as a state-of-the-art, fit-for-the-future stadium with a capacity of 35,000. It will serve as the home ground of KSC football club and must meet the specifications of the German Football League (DFL) for Bundesliga stadiums. Furthermore, as a multi-purpose venue it will also be able to be used for various other events. As the owner of the stadium, the City of Karlsruhe put out the planning and construction services for tender across the EU. The subject of the contract to be awarded was the stadium itself as well as a large above-ground parking deck for the hospitality area, the TV compound and all other open spaces including the requisite provisional facilities and demolition work. As part of the tendering procedure AS+P prepared the description of the functional specifications for the reconstruction of the entire stadium. This involved, on the one hand, compiling the relevant planning framework for the project location and the concept for the location, as well as the general stipulations relating to the stadium itself. On the other, AS+P prepared the specific functional stipulations regarding the spatial concept and layout and defined the necessary planning and construction services. In addition to processing the content, AS+P coordinated the involvement of the relevant specialist planners (e.g., hospitality) and institutions (in particular authorities and organizations with security duties) and was responsible for training and the mutual reconciliation of the resulting functional requirements. During the processing procedure, AS+P also made recommendations with regard to issues relating to football stadiums.
