First project planning phase
AS+P had been commissioned in 2019 to prepare a Detailed Master Plan for a 2,500 ha site in a central location in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The project elaborates on AS+P’s winning entry of a previous international master plan design competition. AS+P laid out a mixed-use residential Master Plan concept which respects the natural wadis on site to a maximum degree. The concept was developed by AS+P with its interdisciplinary team comprising urban planners, transport planners and landscape architects. AS+P covered the concept and schematic design stage, supervising the detailed design and tender documents stage. Together with long-term strategic partner Saudconsult providing for the utility infrastructure concepts, AS+P was able to develope a holistic master plan concept as a basis for the implementation of one of Riyadh’s most promising large-scale urban developments. The design focuses on walkability, reducing car dependency while transforming the local architectural heritage towards an unique contemporary identity. Shared spaces and inspiring neighbourhoods have direct access to nature. The allocation of the crucial public facilities within each neighbourhood will meet the user expectations and reflect the trend of human-scaled urban developments.
