The Diversity of a large Country AS+P has drawn up the master plans for six new »special economic zones for tourism« on behalf of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and the Russian Federation's Ministry of Economics. The goal: to enhance the nation's tourism offerings for Russians and to upgrade and open up the Russian tourism market to foreign clients. The special economic zones are located in unique locations spread across the entire territory of the Russian Federation: in Kaliningrad, in the Krasnodar region, on the Black Sea coast, in the Altai mountains and on Lake Baikal. For each of these projects, a general land use plan and a transportation concept were devised. Special attention was attached to various aspects of ecology and nature preservation in developing sustainable tourism concepts. The master plans feature a well-balanced urban framework for each individual site. They were all developed within the specific regional context. The overall objective: to define a long-term strategy for the urban and economic development of the locations in question.
