“Fantastic, I’m thrilled, impressive!” – exclaimed the audience on Friday evening in the assembly hall of the Stift Neuburg monastery, as the plans for the “Chamber Music Campus” project were presented to over 120 interested citizens.

The entrepreneur Marguerre family, along with Associate Partners Kathrin Gallus and Matthias Dilger from AS+P Albert Speer + Partner GmbH (AS+P), presented the current planning status, including initial visionary designs for the new venue dedicated to music and community.

The campus area is conceived as an open cultural space, designed to meet the creative needs of musicians and creative professionals while also offering the public a place for connection and inspiration for the whole family.

In addition to state-of-the-art rehearsal rooms and event spaces for chamber music concerts, the concept includes a redesigned outdoor area. A restored guesthouse could potentially house a monastery tavern with a beer garden; the 4,000-square-meter monastery garden will be transformed into a local recreational area, and the historic barn (built in 1936) – the heart of the project – will be renovated and converted into a public chamber music hall and concert venue.

Sustainable Architecture in Dialogue with History and the Future

The AS+P design relies on tactfully integrated architecture that harmonizes with the historic surroundings of Stift Neuburg. The typology of the monastery buildings is taken up and reinterpreted. A clear design language, high-quality materials, and sustainable construction methods are integral parts of the holistic development concept, which preserves the listed heritage while also setting bold, contemporary accents.

Sustainability is always a key focus in AS+P’s planning, and the music campus is no exception – it is designed according to the latest energy standards, incorporating renewable energy sources such as geothermal energy, solar roof tiles, brine heat pumps, and a green open-space concept that respects and develops the historic landscape.

The Chamber Music Campus will offer young ensembles a unique place to work creatively under optimal conditions, to develop and expand their repertoire, and to grow artistically at the highest level. It will unite an inspiring environment, excellent infrastructure, and tailor-made support. At the same time, the monastery is envisioned as a place for the entire family.
