During a visit by the King of Saudi Arabia to the oasis city Al Ahsa/Al Mubaraz several Ministry of Housing projects were presented, among them the concept for the ‘Dahyat Alasfer’ urban expansion drawn up by AS+P together with Saudconsult.
On November 26, King Salman Ibn Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, the Governor of the Eastern Province Prince Saud bin Nayef, the Minister of Housing Majed bin Abdullah Al Hogail and other members of the royal family and the Cabinet visited the oasis city Al Ahsa/Al Mubaraz. During the visit, several Ministry of Housing projects were presented. It was, however, the ‘Dahyat Alasfer’ project which attracted the greatest attention, an urban expansion project with some 100,000 residential units, which over several decades will provide a home for up to half a million people. The concept was drawn up by AS+P with its Saudi Arabian partner Saudconsult and also envisages several mixed-use districts with housing, work, shopping, leisure facilities and infrastructure, all grouped around a central green zone. In the east of the expansion zone the oasis’ unique lake adjoins; this is intended for future sustainable and environmentally friendly use for leisure, recreation and tourism. The project is one of the ‘National Vision 2030’ projects, with which the kingdom intends to move economic diversification forward. The project presentation, which was conceived for the Saudi Arabian King in the form of a three-minute video, was designed jointly by the Cologne-based visualization experts HHVISION and AS+P.
