Sample diagram in the bid book: Transportation infrastructure for the Dortmund venue
The German Football Association (DFB) was successful in its bid to host UEFA EURO 2024. This will be the first time since the Wall came down that a European football championship is hosted in Germany. It was a bid document jointly prepared by the DFB, PROPROJEKT and AS+P that in 2018 swung the UEFA’s decision in Germany's favor. The event will be held at ten venues in Germany, which had previously won a national bidding competition. Together with PROPROJEKT, AS+P provided professional support to the DFB throughout the bidding process and also developed the transportation and traffic concept for all ten venues. This involved estimating the expected traffic demand not only for the participating teams and officials and the media representatives, but also for the spectators expected to attend the event. Based on these findings, the infrastructure requirements were calculated and the necessary capacities for the individual modes of transportation were defined. Subsequently, in cooperation with the respective responsible authorities and organizations, a comparison was made with existing capacities and the additional capacity resulting from expansion schemes and new construction projects that were already planned for the respective networks at the local, regional, and national level. This covered access and exit routes to the stadiums, parking facilities and fan zones could finally be specified and depicted in the form of a diagram for all venues.
