Basic approach “Quality”: 15,000 spectators
AS+P was commissioned to devise a feasibility study for the expansion of the above-mentioned stadium’s capacity. The study looked into not only the constructional/functional feasibility but also the acoustic conditions expected in connection with the capacity expansion, the predicted effects on traffic, and the associated expenses. In terms of concept, a potential expansion of the stadium’s theoretical capacity to accommodate between 2,000 and 8,000 spectators was discussed, but at the end of the day and particularly because of the cramped situation in the built-up area surrounding the stadium and the general location-specific conditions (height difference given the slope at one side leading down to the course of the Isar River, signposting, accessibility etc.), AS+P investigated in depth the development prospects for Grünwald Stadium in terms of a “baseline stadium for 15,000 spectators” (focus on quality) and as an “expansion status to 18,060 spectators” (focus on quality and quantity). To expand the capacity of the Grünwald Stadium any further was something that AS+P considered unrealistic.
