AS+P was commissioned by the City of Krefeld with ensuring the Grotenburg Stadium was fit to host football matches in the third German football division. Among other things, one of the requirements was to come up with a traffic flow concept. With this in mind, the basic conditions at the venue were specified and spectator scenarios for a maximum of 10,800 spectators compiled as the basis for the traffic flow report. On the basis of these spectator scenarios, a quantity structure for costs was elaborated, taking into account not only assumptions about the modal split but also the spatial and temporal distribution of visitors. This formed the basis going forward for the balanced mix and location of the parking space requirement identified. Based on this, a concept for organizing traffic in the area around the stadium was produced, one that focused on incoming and outgoing car traffic, local public transport, pedestrian and cycle traffic, safe pedestrian paths from the parking facilities and the public transport stops along with the requirement to segregate fans. In addition to this the various requirements of the direct vicinity, particularly those of Krefeld Zoo were analyzed and taken into account in the evaluation of possible variants. Finally, it was determined that operating the Grotenburg Stadium for third soccer division is possible under certain conditions taking into account the demands of the existing infrastructure. These conditions largely include operational coordination and man­age­ment functions and measures that complement ecomobility, e.g., in the form of additional cycle stands, organizational measures that protect local residents (parking space man­age­ment) and event-related operational improvements (increased frequency, special bus traffic).
