As consortium leader of an interdisciplinary consortium with the regional cooperation partners Gertec (Essen), Büro Drecker (Bottrop) and Conlab (Düsseldorf) AS+P drew up the master plan and the innovation handbook for the InnovationCity Ruhr | Model City Bottrop. The master plan process, which was scheduled to last 18 months, and the compilation of an innovation handbook are a mainstay of the entire "InnovationCity Ruhr | Model City Bottrop" project, and are unique in this form. They underpin the trend towards cities that will suit the local climatic conditions, while at the same time improving the quality of life. Aspects such as urban development, energy, and mobility were combined in an integrated planning process. Furthermore, existing individual projects were included in a joint framework, and any gaps with regard to content filled. From this, implementation strategies were derived and concrete steps, players, and methods of financing defined. On the basis of the knowledge gleaned, an innovation handbook was compiled, which, citing the model city of Bottrop as an example, illustrates how urban redevelopment that suits the local climatic conditions can be implemented in other cities. As such this project stands to benefit not only the inhabitants of Bottrop, but those of other cities and regions as well.
