Planning of the “upper tier, opposite stand”
Having been promoted to the top-flight Bundesliga at the end of the 2014-5 season, the FC Ingolstadt football club is now considering increasing the spectator capacity of the Audi Sportpark. AS+P was commissioned to prepare a functional expansion concept. Alongside functional expansion planning at the stadium itself, the brief involved in particular specifying access, facilities, and land requirements associated with an increase in capacity. Part of the job was also to evaluate the ensuing impact (on transport, the surroundings, emissions, etc.), so that they can be factored in as assessment parameters in further planning. Furthermore, the potential expansion of the stadium had to be purposefully compared with the requirements of existing and planned facilities in the broader vicinity, the IN-Campus, a step necessary to reconcile possibly diverging claims to land by subprojects. Because stadium-specific circumstances (separation of spectator groups, land requirements for matches entailing higher risk of danger, third-party use, etc.) were also taken into account, what the client considered possible areas of conflict relating to the venue (for example with regard to future licensing aspects) were reduced or eliminated entirely. This ensured greater planning and operational certainty for the main user of the Audi Sportpark, as well as for the owner of the stadium.
