The Weinheim Future Workshop was set up to pave the way for the town’s urban development masterplan. Across a project term of around two years, participants will discuss fundamental development goals and formulate guidelines for Weinheim’s future development. The civic participation process involves a touring exhibition, three large public forums, two online surveys, and topic-based working parties. It encourages participation by relevant stakeholders as well as the general public. Each of the working parties for the four core topics of Housing, Commerce, Outdoor Space, and Mobility hosts two sessions to intensively discuss jointly supported objectives, identify possible conflicts, and specify important measures. AS+P is providing planning support for the Future Workshop as well as analyzing the existing situation and the content developed in the course of the participation formats. As independent experts, AS+P outlines the overall parameters, offers well-founded professional assessments, develops conceptual approaches to solving problems, and translates the results of the participation formats into conceptual plans and sketched outlines. These proposals will then be professionally processed ready for the subsequent participation process, which makes it possible for those involved in the process to engage thoroughly with the conceptual and planning discussion. AS+P will then produce a draft for the masterplan, which draws on the stated objectives and planning statements from the participation process, brings them to bear in specific planning ideas, and outlines prospective time frames and possible priorities. The masterplan has been approved by the municipal council.
