10 Years. 225 Client Project Meetings. And now, the ICONIC AWARD 2026.

We are delighted to announce that the Sky Line Station at Frankfurt Airport’s Terminal 1, including its connecting corridors, has received the ICONIC AWARD 2026 in the “Architecture – Public” category. This marks a special milestone for a project that AS+P has supported for almost a decade. One that has continually challenged and inspired our team throughout its development.

The new station serves as the northern terminal of the approximately 5.6km Passenger Transport System (PTS) route, providing a fast and high-capacity link between Terminal 1, 2 and the new Terminal 3. At Terminal 1, it connects seamlessly with the regional and long-distance rail stations, the central bus station, the Sheraton Hotel, and the airport’s existing circulation network.

The completed station reflects not only architectural ambition, but also an extraordinary process of planning and execution. The design and construction of the station within the operational environment of an international airport called for exceptional commitment from the entire project team, close collaboration across complex technical, structural, and transport interfaces, and the flexibility to accommodate evolving requirements throughout the project.

What does a project of this scale demand? Experience, continuity, and perseverance. The ability to remain calm as complexity grows. Robust processes and meticulous documentation. Above all, it relies on people who take ownership, collaborate closely, and develop solutions together. That is precisely what defines this project.

After Grimshaw completed RIBA Stages 1 and 2, AS+P assumed responsibility for the subsequent planning phases, leading the project through design development, coordination and delivery to completion. We are especially proud that, following nearly a decade of dedicated work, this exceptional piece of infrastructure has received international recognition.

The ICONIC AWARD 2026 celebrates not only the project’s architectural achievement but is also a tribute to the people whose expertise, commitment, and shared dedication to excellence have shaped it over the years. We are deeply grateful to the AS+P project team, our client Fraport, and all project partners for their trust, commitment, and collaboration throughout this journey.

A long journey. A strong team. An award-winning result.

One special moment still lies ahead: in October, we will have the honour of accepting the ICONIC AWARD in person in Munich, an occasion we are very much looking forward to!
