BAUWELT Interview with AS+P, Joachim Schares on Saudi Arabia's social change and transformative journey

Joachim Schares, one of four managing partners at AS+P Albert Speer Partner GmbH, has been active in the MENA region for more than 20 years, overseeing numerous major projects also in Saudi Arabia.

In an interview with the renowned German architecture magazine BAUWELT (Issue 22.2024), Schares talks about the long-standing friendly collaboration between AS+P and the Kingdom, the significance of contextual architecture and finding the right balance between tradition and modernity. The interview also deals with Riyadh’s rapid development as a boomtown on the Arabian Peninsula and the increasingly important role of women in the everyday business life.

Saudi-Arabia has seen a remarkable transformation, and the country has opened up a lot. Upcoming events like the EXPO 2030 in Riyadh and the 2034 FIFA World Cup are further excellent opportunities for the country and its people to present themselves to the world as a progressive nation with great pride in its own rich cultural heritage.
