After considerable sporting success in the past season, the Chemnitz Niners basketball team – European Cup winners and semi-finalists in the German championship playoffs – are firmly on track to get a new home stadium. AS+P is delighted to contribute its decades of experience in planning and building practice for sporting events by examining the viability of a new multifunctional arena in Chemnitz as part of a feasibility study.

The aim of the feasibility study commissioned by the city of Chemnitz is to investigate the possibilities of locating a modern multifunctional hall in the inner-city area of Chemnitz. Due to its multifunctional design, the arena is intended to serve as a venue for a multitude of events. Not only will it meet the requirements of the German Basketball Bundesliga and the Euroleague for the Niners Chemnitz, thus enabling nationally and internationally competitive match operations for the club in the long term. But it will also serve as a venue for other national, regional and local events, creating new, innovative meeting spaces and increasing the attractiveness of the city centre and the region.

With the support of PROPROJEKT, CSIGHT GmbH and KOHNEN Berater und Ingenieure GmbH, AS+P will conduct a market and location analysis as well as a needs assessment. Based on the results of this project phase, the viability of locating a new multifunctional hall in the city centre of Chemnitz will be examined. The feasibility study will investigate the conditions surrounding the urban development and infrastructure, as well as the economic, functional and cultural potential of a multifunctional hall at the selected site. In addition, the desired hall will be developed as a functional-schematic design model.

The feasibility study is to be completed in May 2025. It will serve as part of the decision-making basis for the Chemnitz City Council regarding the realisation of a new multifunctional hall in the inner-city area of Chemnitz.
