Sustainable and vibrant open space in an industrial park?

In an interview with urban media, landscape architect Matthias Dilger talks about the opportunities and challenges involved in the exciting transformation of the Westside project in Frankfurt/Main.

Our colleagues in open-space planning have been part of the Westside project as members of the interdisciplinary planning team since the very first sketches. During the master planning phase, we worked with our urban and mobility planners to establish the guidelines for careful integration of the industrial heritage into the public spaces and for ecological and climate-sensitive open-space development.

The AS+P team is now also entrusted with the task of handling implementation of these planning ideas. The project is currently in the preliminary design phase, but will keep the open-space planners busy far beyond the next ten years. This is one of the most important industrial conversions in the Frankfurt area, setting high standards for climate-friendly planning and attractive open spaces and with uses to benefit employees, visitors, and citizens alike.
