For Abu Dhabi's Application to host the FIFA Club World Cup in 2009 / 2010, AS+P was in charge of the technical and functional planning for the football venues according to the FIFA regulations and standards. The two venues envisaged to host the tournament, Zayed Sports City Stadium and Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, are conveniently located in the city centre of Abu Dhabi. Currently neither of the stadia sufficiently meet the venue requirements asked for by the FIFA. It was in the responsibility of AS+P to develop plans for the reorganisation of the venue precincts and the stadiums in a way that the operational and functional needs are catered for. This included the definition of interior and exterior security zones, grandstand capacity expansions, access routing concepts for the various constituent groups (VIP - media - officials - public ), etc.. AS+P contributed Chapter 4 (Stadiums) to the official Application File of Abu Dhabi's Bid, comprising of site Plans, ground floor schemes and cross sections to illustrate the design intent. On May 27, 2008, the FIFA Executive Board Meeting in Sydney decided that the UAE should host the FIFA Club World Cups 2009 and 2010.
