master plan
The Mediterranean Games are a multi-sports event which takes place every four years, starting with their inception 1951 in Alexandria. 24 countries surrounding the Mediterranean Basin are participating in the ten days event. The paternity of the Games is allocated to the International Committee for the Mediterranean Games (ICMG), which awards the Games six years prior to the host city. Together with its project partners abold, ProProjekt and GRID, AS+P was assigned by the National Sports Council of Egypt to prepare and guide the bid process for the development of the candidature file and the subsequent bid document production to host the Mediterranean Games 2017 in the City of Alexandria. The principle idea for the Games rests on a twin venue cluster concept that ensures a harmonious blend of the city's history and present. Using world famous historic landmarks and the corniche road along the Mediterranean Sea as a backdrop for the Games, the Master Plan uses existing sports facilities while also creating new exciting state-of-the-art venues. In line with ecological and economic considerations, the Games concept has been designed to fit firmly into the city's long-term urban development plan and, by offering a very compact venue concept, provides excellent conditions for the athletes to perform their best.
