Julius Berger International was commissioned with planning a link bridge between the Lagos districts of Ikoyi and Lekki in 2008. AS+P, together with the engineers at Julius Berger International, designed Lagos' new landmark. Measuring 1.36 kilometers in length, the bridge across Five Cowry Creek is secured in the middle by a large pylon. At the top of the bridge a total of 28 stay cables are held in place in such a way that, with a great distance between them, they truly emphasize the pylon and, given the enormous span, create an impressive space. At the top, the pylon's pillars are connected horizontally with one another. At night the space in between is illuminated in different colors. Over 90 meters high, the Lekki Ikoyi Link Bridge makes a mark. This is the very first cable-stayed structure to be built in Nigeria. In the shortest of time it has become a landmark of modern Lagos and reflects the self-confidence of Africa's biggest and constantly growing city.
