The gallery café is located in Gubei area, in the western part of downtown Shanghai. Gubei area is one of the earliest inter­national communities after the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy. The gallery café is located on the ground floor of a service apartment building, which is mainly rent to overseas guests and five minutes' walk from the next metro station. The task was to create a simple and clear space for the exhibition, as well as a friendly atmosphere for the café, which is represented by the wooden box in the middle of the area and the white puristic gallery space on both sides. The client strongly supported the concept, and named the gallery café »THE SPACE«. The gallerie not only offers room for professional exhibitions, but also provide opportunities to public people to present their ideas and art works. After the opening in January 2015 the location already became a multi-function space for exhibition, art salon, events, etc. The wooden outdoor platform is even be used for a small flea market, which is favored by local residents.
