Deutsche Lufthansa AG commissioned AS+P as lead designer and general planner for the new Lufthansa Group Hangar One, a conference and visitor centre at Frankfurt Airport. The new building complements the Lufthansa Aviation Centre and forms part of the masterplan developed by AS+P for the long-term development of the Lufthansa site.
Flexible meeting and workshop spaces
Hangar One unites exhibition, conference and event spaces under one roof. Exhibition areas commemorate the history of Lufthansa, while a café and shop, as well as flexible meeting and workshop spaces, create a place for employees, business partners and visitors.

The long-span modular steel structure encloses a 17.55-metre-high exhibition hall with floor-to-ceiling glazing on three sides. The hall showcases the Junkers Ju 52 and the Lockheed L-1649A Super Star as its centrepiece exhibits, making them visible from outside the building. Inspired by an aircraft wing, a translucent lightweight membrane is positioned in front of the glazed façade and supported by a slender aluminium and steel structure. It provides protection from the weather, glare, unwanted views and solar gain.

In addition to the architectural design, AS+P was responsible for the landscape architecture, including a green promenade along the southern façade, seating modules and planted islands. Renewable energy, green roofs and rainwater management are integral parts of the concept.
Site plan of Lufthansa Conference and Visitor Centre
The early involvement of contractors, BIM-based planning and processes adopted from industrial construction enabled the project to be delivered within a tight timeframe.
Dynamic, polygonal design of the promenade
Since 1 August 2026, Lufthansa Group Hangar One has been open to the public, offering visitors the opportunity to experience aviation history at first hand.
