planning area
On its approx. 54-hectare site in the south of the City of Erlangen, Siemens AG is by 2030 planning to build an open, trailblazing and sustainable campus - the Siemens Campus. Alongside state-of-the-art office, service and research facilities, an approx. 15-hectare residential area will also be built. In preparation for the project AS+P conducted a feasibility study from which, on the basis of reference scenarios, it derived the key features of the planning. In close cooperation with the client and the City of Erlangen, AS+P then organized a competition with one section calling for ideas about how to develop the site, and another for architectural solutions, in keeping with the basic principles of the Guidelines for Planning Competitions (RPW 2013). The services performed by AS+P included providing the client with comprehensive advice with regard to procedural questions, the compilation of the documents calling for tenders, to include calculation of the costs, the organization of the preliminary assessment and the urban development and architectural pre-assessment, and in the preparation and overseeing of procedural deadlines. At its concluding session, the jury selected the design submitted by KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten GmbH as the winning entry. Work on construction of the Campus is due to begin in 2016.
