The Summer Universiade is one of the world's biggest sporting events and is staged every two years by the International University Sports Federation FISU (Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire). The colloquial term »Student Olympics« used for the event does insufficient justice to its complexity: With some 10,000 athletes taking part in 18 disciplines in just 12 days, the Summer Universiade makes exacting demands on the host city. Furthermore, the Universiade is more than just a sporting event. True to the FISU motto »Excellence in Mind and Body«, an extensive educational and cultural program is an integral part of the Universiade. Having been awarded the 2015 European Games, Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan decided, a part of a long-term urban and sport development strategy, to submit a bid for the 2019 Summer Universiade. AS+P, together with PROPROJEKT Planungsman­age­ment & Projektberatung GmbH and the agency abold Büro für Marketingkommunikation GmbH, was commissioned to develop the basic strategic bid concept and compile the documents required by FISU regulations. AS+P is responsible for the concepts for the 24 competition venues, the training facilities and the athletes' accommodation in the »Universiade Village«.
